A watchful portrait, rusted balls and chains, and a descending scroll give physical form to Randy Gaul’s lifelong struggle to understand conflict among the world’s major religions. The scroll repeats “you are wrong” in English, Hebrew, Farsi, and Hindi. The chains represent the ignorance that binds us, while the repeated accusation evokes the bloodshed sustained by certainty and male ego. Through this construction, Gaul asks what might bring people together if the need to prove others wrong could finally give way to understanding.
