A close view of a forked, deeply textured trunk fills the scene, its curved surfaces interrupted by dark cavities and pale openings. Landscape 7 brings the viewer nearer to the structures that shape Randy Gaul’s imaginary, childlike world. The tree feels almost bodily at this scale, encouraging the eye to trace its folds and branching contours. Within a series devoted to a place where nature dominates, this study finds an entire landscape in the presence of a single immense form.
