A cloaked figure faces the viewer against a misty urban skyline, its recognizable coat interrupted by unfamiliar extensions. This character is central to Randy Gaul’s film project Realms, in which ancient beings walk among the population. The story explores what we think we know about our place in the universe. The city gives that inquiry an everyday setting, while the shaman’s restrained frontal pose invites close attention to the extraordinary presence moving within it.
