Discarded plumbing pieces and scrap metal form the structure of Visceral Fire. Within them, a glowing stalk of acrylic resin is saturated with air bubbles that catch the light in varied ways. Randy Gaul invites viewers to look down through the cabochon dome, where a magnified world of cellular growth comes into view. The warm illumination gives the object a bodily presence, while its salvaged components create a frame for an unexpectedly delicate encounter with the world inside.
