Great umbrella-like canopies rise in layers above slender trunks and palm-like plants, with diagonal light opening passages through the scene. Landscape 4 gives Randy Gaul’s imaginary, childlike world a sweeping sense of scale. The enormous growths appear to shape an entire environment, creating sheltered spaces below and luminous distances between them. Within this small study, nature becomes both architecture and atmosphere, inviting the viewer to wander through a place built around the forms of its vegetation.
