Birth Mother

A small head crowns a body that seems to contain an entire ecosystem: perforated chambers, branching filaments, an eye, and delicate forms suspended below. For Randy Gaul, Birth Mother belongs to a lifelong effort to understand what we fear and why. Its imposing central mass and fragile trailing strands bring that inquiry into physical form. The unfamiliar anatomy invites close attention, allowing curiosity to accompany the unease of encountering something we cannot readily name.
