A dark, rounded opening rests within a wash of turquoise, green and pale yellow. Around it, fluid passages rise and curl, creating the impression of a landscape made from movement rather than solid ground. The contrast between luminous color and deep black gives this small watercolor its center of gravity. Jacknowitz leaves the opening’s identity unresolved, allowing it to suggest shelter, absence or a form waiting to become visible. The longer the encounter, the less fixed the scene becomes.
