111 Minna Gallery celebrates 15 years of Few & Far Women, an international street art and skateboarding collective that began with a mural in Oakland. Explore 13 works from the San Francisco pop-up, from painted graffiti lettering and portraits to a miniature freight car, with a guest work by Lady Pink.
15 Years of Few & Far Women
In 2011, graffiti artist Meme brought 17 women together to paint a mural in Oakland. They called it Few and Far, and the name stuck. The crew went on to paint murals across borders and organize skate events for women and girls, making more room for them in both scenes.
You can see that history in the details. Nico Cathcart paints two views of a skull tagged during the crew’s trip to Puerto Rico. Polen works the Few and Far lettering into a pair of overlapping flowers, a tribute to the support she’s found in the crew. In Shan’s miniature freight car scene, the lettering stretches across the side of the car, just beyond a chain-link fence.
