Joe Ceballos

Joe Ceballos moves between believable worlds and images that refuse to resolve. Raised in Los Angeles and trained in illustration at ArtCenter College of Design, he has worked across film, television and interactive media, with credits that include Rogue One, Andor and Pokémon GO. He also teaches at California College of the Arts. His oil paintings bring representational skill into contact with abstraction, allowing faces and figures to emerge from passages of color, then become uncertain again. Ceballos is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Visual Effects Branch in 2022. His personal work keeps the human presence at its center, even when the surrounding world becomes unstable.
